Memories of David Brooks (the fishing year's)

Created by Fred 4 years ago

Myself and my wife Patricia first met David when he joined and fished in England's first international in 1981.
He became heavily involved with the English Disabled Fly Fishing club and wrote the EDFF's constitution, when it became a Charity a few year's later on.
David was an integral part of the committee throughout the active part of his fishing life, he was vice president and chairman for some year's. He also joined the Then Leicester Handicapped Fly Fishers Club and enjoyed many days pleasure fishing with Fred and they became close friends.

Actually David would have known me before I met my wife Patricia, then when Patricia and myself took on the task of running the annual Chatsworth Tombola. It was David who wrote to many companies asking for and receiving many donations of goods and vouchers, to be used as prizes. A thankless task but without his work our main fundraising event would not have happened.
Before and after Kay passed away, as a family (first with two girls then three) we travelled down on occasions to see David often accompanied by Fred. Helping to clear the garden, cut the knee high grass, build his metal shed and do DIY jobs he needed help with. Plus pick Bramley apples (sending the girls up into the trees to throw the apple's down) and of course having a good old chat!
Although I rarely fished with David myself, I know he was an excellent Fly fishermen and loved being out in a boat enjoying the fresh air and wildlife you see at close quarter's on the water.
From what I can recall his preferred method of fishing was with daddy's and hoppers or the dry fly. David usually caught a few trout, but wasn't upset if he didn't as he just enjoyed the countryside so much.

David I hope you are now casting a Fly to a rising fish in that big lake in the sky and at peace.

With fond memories Mark
